Regional Partnership for Sustainable Integrated Municipal Waste Management in Municipalities of South Central Region (2004-2005)

The main topics discussed in the workshop on 27.05.2005 were:

¨ European Union Directives on Waste Management and the transposed Bulgarian legislation in this area;

¨ Upgrading municipal waste management programs in  conformity with the requirements of the Waste Management Act (2003) and the National Waste Management Program;

¨ Good practices from the EU and Bulgaria on waste management;

¨ Financing municipal waste management programs;

¨ Partnership between the local government, the business sector and NGOs in developing and implementing municipal waste management programs.

Experts from the Ministry of Environment and Water presented the National Waste Management Program and the guidelines on development of municipal waste management programs.

Each participant received a Resource Book with materials covering the topics on integrated waste management, a Handbook on Composting and a Teacher’s Guide on Solid Waste Management.

The Regional TV Center of the Bulgarian National TV in Plovdiv conducted an interview with the President of the ETP Foundation– Sustainable Development Projects, Mrs. Krustina Mandova, which was broadcasted in the evening news on May 27, 2005.

Three other national and local newspapers prepared articles on the event.
